Tam does SPICE a favour !

In his Daily Record column on April 19th, Tam Cowan - he of BBC "Off the Ball" fame - wrote about his enjoyment of "the staff curry" and his delight when he found it on the menu at SPICE Indian Cuisine in Hamilton.

As Tam raved on about the "Absolutely heavenly" Staff Curry he had enjoyed at Spice, he also did their website a favour by suggesting that people should just Google "Spice" and "Hamilton".

What happened? Visitors to the Spice website at thecurryplace.com shot up on the 19th then remained above average for all of the following two weeks, as shown by the following graph of website visitor statistics.

A look at the statistics for the 19th April shows that 65% of visitors to the site that day had, indeed, searched on "spice hamilton", as suggested in Tam's column.

Incidently, a search on "spice hamilton" using EasySearch gives returns from both Windows Live and Yahoo! although Google delivered 79% of visitors to the Spice website that day, while Live and Yahoo! together accounted for just 7.5% of site visitors.

What this demonstrates is the continuing power of press editorial - and the value of measuring.

Of course it's not always possible to get editorial in a national like the Daily Record, but there are also regional and local newspapers which can reach people on your own doorstep. So what news can you feed them about your business or organisation?

And don't forget about online Press Releases - take a look at PR Web, PR Zoom and PR Leap.
